Creative Philosophy

My body speaks in fragmented syntax.

It is vibratory, suspended, anticipatory, released. It drafts material with a journalist’s keen eye and greets the audience like a teacher welcomes a classroom filled with eager learners. As an interdisciplinary dance artist and educator, I consider myself maker and spectator, insider and outsider to written and embodied forms. My choreography is rooted in autoethnographic, social, and political landscapes, waxing poetic on issues such as female identity, mental health, gun control, and performativity. I strive to provide entrypoints for audiences by way of storytelling and am interested in site-specific dance’s power to enliven the everyday spaces we inhabit. My dancers are collaborators sharing their movement histories and my choreography prioritizes participatory environments so that the audience becomes a collaborator as well. A writer once advised me to let poetry take you places. This has become my artistic mission as my practices coalesce and my body seeks expressive, idyllic pastures.
